Provincial Netball
Where can I find my nearest club or information about joining a league?
For information about leagues in Alberta (not Calgary) click here
Where do you play?
In Alberta netball is predominantly played in Calgary. Our main league is played at Southland Leisure Centre, Southland Drive SW. Calgary on Sunday nights from Sept to March each year. There are some teams playing in Edmonton and we are in the process of setting up contacts and teams in Medicine Hat & Lethbridge. Please contact the netball office: click here , where you can be redirected to our contacts in these areas.
Where do you train?
We train in Calgary from Monday through Thursday every week from Sept to March at different locations but mainly in the SW. You training night and venue will depend on the team you are allocated to play for. Information is available on this website
What age groups play?
Netball Alberta runs league programmes in Fall, Winter & Spring for ages U12 to Seniors and Summer Camp programmes from age 8 to 14. Our Leagues are broken down into U12, U16, Recreational Ladies and Senior A players.
U12: From ages 8 to 12 (School Div II). If a child shows previous expertise or a greater ability they may be moved up to the older age group by the coach. Registration fees would remain at the age group appropriate for U12.
U16: 12 - 16 years, Junior High and above. In some cases we have older players in this group who are still grasping the nuances of the game or younger players who have the ability to play with an older group. These players are looking to rise to the Goslings & Cygnets; teams from this age group that play in the Recreational Ladies league and are identified by the coaches as having the potential to play Provincially, representing Alberta in tournaments and events.
Recreational Ladies: This league includes the Cygnets and Goslings teams made up of U16 players who have the potential to play Provincially and require a higher level of competitive netball. The remainder of the league is made up of ladies (and some men) who are either new to netball or have some experience but no longer want to play at the higher competition end of our association. Ages therefore range widely and we have players aged 50+.
Senior A: This league is for our Provincial players and past Provincial players who still like a highly competitive league. We have a few men who also play in this league. This league is not for the inexperienced player although we do feed in from the Goslings & Cygnets as the year progresses and potential Provincial candidates are identified.
How do I register?
You can register on line through this website click here. Registration is accepted all year round and our main season runs from Sept to end of March. Contact the netball office by e-mail: click here, if you are joining after the start of the season in Sept.
How to I join a team?
Netball Alberta accepts both team registrations and individual registrations. For individuals we run a netball 101 program at the start of each season and the players are assessed by our coaches and allocated a team on skill and ability. As the season progresses, new members will talk to one of our coaches and may be asked to come along and try out in a couple of different groups to assess where they best fit in. The coach will then allocate the player to a team
