U16 Seattle Trip

The Alberta U/16 team headed to Seattle on Friday the 12th of June to play in the US Nationals tournament. Once in Seattle they went to the hotel where they got a good night sleep for the next day.
On Saturday they played four games with two ten minute halves.  They won one out of the four games and tied two. The game that they won was against a BC team that had a range of players from different age groups (U/16-U/21) as they mixed up their teams for the day. The two games that they tied were also played against mixed BC teams. The fourth game was very intense, with Alberta only losing by a couple of points to the US U/21 team that is going to the Cook Islands for the World Championships in August. This team was much rougher than any of the other teams that they had ever played. They held up very well playing this team. Once the U16’s were done playing for the day, they had a couple of hours to go shopping downtown while the Alberta Open team was playing hard against other teams. At the end of the day the U16’s finished first in their age group and third in the U/21 age group. The MVP for the age group was awarded to GD, Andrea Clarke from Alberta.

On Sunday they played four games that were 40 minutes long. They won two out of the four and lost the other two. The teams that they beat were the U/16 and U1/8 BC teams. The two games they lost to were to the U/21 BC and the U/21 US team. These two teams had many players that have been playing for eight or more years and a number of the U21 BC team had been members of the Canadian squad. Their ability to compete and hold their own against these experienced teams is a great testament to their development. The U/16’s cleaned up in the trophy department as they came home with gold on Sunday, again winning the U/16 age category.  The MVP for the U16 age group on Sunday was also a person from Alberta, Emily Quick.

Overall the U16’s did a great job in Seattle winning both days and bringing home a lot of hardware to show for all their hard work. They would not have been able to do this without their great coach Bri who took the time to go to Seattle with them.
