BOARD MEMBERS
PRESIDENT - Lucy Park
My background is in Mechanical Engineering, and I am a registered Professional Engineer with APEGA. I work for an oil and gas engineering company in a Project Controls and Corporate Services role, which includes operations planning, human resources and safety. I have had an active role on the ANA executive board as the strategic planning director and have enjoyed being given the opportunity to give back to the sport that I have been involved with for over 35 years in a variety of capacities - player, umpire, junior coach, YDS provincial team manager and most rewardingly, mum of netball players who have inherited a love of the sport. I am passionate about the opportunities that playing netball brings on so many levels to our players, and am keen to have the opportunity to further strengthen and develop all opportunities to play and support netball in Alberta, and at the national level.
VICE PRESIDENT - Marilise Turnbull
I have a MSc in Development Management and my own consulting business in international development and humanitarian action (www.irmassociates.org). I enjoy working with interdisciplinary teams for causes that benefit our communities and society. I took up netball again in Calgary, 25 years after my last game at school in England! I have been Secretary of Netball Alberta since 2018 and would be happy to continue supporting NA in this way.
SECRETARY - Lauren Chandler
Hi, I'm Lauren Chandler! I have been playing netball here in Calgary for the last 5 years and basically my whole life back in Australia. In my professional life I have a Bachelor of Commerce, with majors in Human Resource Management and Labour Relations. I have been working union side as a Labour Relations Office for the last 7 years and love being able to assist members when they need it most. I have recently come into the role of secretary and have been enjoying it as a way to give back and support netball in the province I now call home.
TREASURER - Ashton Barg
I am an APEGA registered professional engineer with 10 years of technical experience consulting for engineering/procurement companies. I am also a business enthusiast and wanted a skill set to complement my technical knowledge. Therefore, I enrolled in the MBA program with a specialization in Finance at the University of Calgary (Grad Dec 5 2020). If chosen for the position of Treasurer, I have a network of experts in accounting and business to help if needed.
Volunteering for Netball Alberta as Treasurer is an exciting opportunity to not only put the theoretical knowledge to practice, but also to promote and encourage the sport of Netball in Alberta.
MARKETING DIRECTOR - Jenny Hawker
As a well established netball player in both England and Canada, I certainly live and breathe netball. I have been a qualified coach over the last 13 years as well as played as a representative for Netball Alberta. I have a background in fitness coupled with experience in marketing of various fitness programs throughout my career. Within the marketing director role I aim to bring an increased awareness of netball to the province of Alberta and within our local community.
TECHNICAL DIRECTOR - Lavinia McElwee
Kia Ora, my name is Lavinia McElwee. My background is in Intellectual Property law. I have been a Paralegal in this space for well over 15 years. I work with some complex legal rules and regulations and essentially assist to solve problems for businesses and individuals and their intellectual property rights.
I have been involved with Netball Alberta for over 10 years now, and have recently held an active role as the Operations Director for the Calgary League for 6 years. Furthermore, I grew up playing in New Zealand and spent many Saturday mornings down at the local courts.
I play, umpire and coach netball and enjoy the hands-on experience. Further strengthening and developing netball at all levels is an integral part of the growth of the sport in Alberta and Canada.
CALGARY LEAGUE - Sarah Gilchrist
Hi, I'm Sarah Gilchrist! I have been playing netball here in Calgary since January this year, when I also moved to Canada, but I grew up playing it most of my life back in Australia. In my personal life, I am a special education teacher and back home was also a special education swim teacher. I have grown up around disability and am extremely passionate about giving everyone and anyone an opportunity to participate in anything they want to. Although I have only recently moved to Canada, I am already an active member of the Calgary league and look forward to having the chance to give back.
EDMONTON LEAGUE - Krystil Jones
Having grown up in South Africa, my first experience with netball was in Grade 1 when everyone would ignore the lines and swarm the ball. I played until I graduated high school, and, fortunately, refined my skills in that time. When I moved back to Canada, I joined the Calgary league and played from 2003-2005, and then again from 2009-2013, when I was a part of the league’s best team, the Hyenas ;o). When I moved to Edmonton, I got involved with the start-up league in 2015, and have been President of Edmonton Netball for the last few years. On a personal note, I’m momma-bear to two girls, who are 3.5 and 1.5 and keep me busy and on my toes. I recently completed my MBA and am looking forward to using my newly found business skills to grow netball in Edmonton.
