Netball Alberta was overjoyed to host the Canadian U21 Team Coach, Lorraine Brown, on October 17th and 18th, who lead a training camp for our promising current U18 players.
The Friday evening session ran from 7:00-10:00 pm at Southland Leisure Centre, beginning with a series of spatial awareness and communication based warm-up drills that broke the ice. A variety of “Leading & Reading” drills followed and culminated in bringing the ball down court in several ways.
The Saturday morning session focused on individual skills such as quick release passes, outside pivots, man-to-man defensive tactics, and progressed towards a confidence and willingness to leave your player and go for an intercept in the space around you. Both sessions ended with plenty of game time for our Netball Alberta development players to showcase their skills and try out those new techniques gleaned from Lorraine’s coaching.
Lorraine’s individual feedback to each player was extremely helpful and encouraging. We hope that we can continue to provide our youth opportunities to be seen by the Canadian coach in anticipation of the team being selected to represent our Country at the 2017 World Championships in Botswana.
Thank you to all of those players who were able to attend and to Lorraine for making the trip and imparting her wisdom. We look forward to her next visit.
