On Saturday November 29th, 2014, Netball Alberta hosted its second annual Family Exhibition Game at Southland Leisure Centre in conjunction with the fifth annual RBC Sports Day in Canada. Presented by ParticipACTION, CBC and True Sport - celebrated in communities from coast to coast to coast - this national celebration of sport, from grassroots to high-performance levels, was an opportunity for all Canadians to celebrate the power of sport and build community.
Netball Alberta actively participated in this celebration by holding an Exhibition Game involving provincial players, junior league players and their parents and/or siblings. This occasion was an opportunity for our junior developing players to show off their netball skills, in addition to participating in a nationwide celebration of sport. They enjoyed the chance to play alongside their provincial-level coaches, in order to envision where the sport can take them. The most unique portion of this netball event was the opportunity for parents/ family members to play together with their children. It was incredible to see parents and siblings excelling at netball and demonstrating such friendly competition.
Despite the unsavory weather, we had an outstanding turnout, with even more junior players and parents coming to play than had RSVP’d. Thank you to the almost 20 children and their family members who made the trek to participate and ensure that this year’s game was such a success. Special thanks goes out to all the provincial players, photography, score keeping, merchandising, and umpiring volunteers who offered their time to make this game possible. Thank you for the photos, Michael Lee!
