Hello Netball community,
Fall normally goes hand in hand with the start of a new netball season. This year is a little different. We have recently completed a comprehensive Return to Play document which is now being reviewed by the Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation arm of the Government of Alberta. Once that review is complete we will be able to commence some limited netball programming, working within the constraints of limited gym time slots. Stay tuned for more information. In addition to spending time developing a Return to Play strategy, members of the Executive have been reviewing the bylaws of the Alberta Netball Association (ANA), with a view to strengthening the overall governance. For the upcoming year we have decided to implement a more transparent way to become a member of ANA. This year we will be offering memberships to ANA for $5 for the current financial year, if registered prior to October 31 2020. After this date the full membership fee will be applied. Please note this is not a fee for participation in a program, it is a membership fee, which includes the following benefits: • Access to personal injury insurance when participating in an event sanctioned by the Association eg Provincial training, city leagues or tournaments • Receive communication of ANA sanctioned events, such as leagues and tournaments across Alberta • Invitation to coaching and umpiring clinics • Invitation to trial for Provincial squads • Receive notices of meetings, including the Annual General Meeting, where members vote on the election of Directors and other business relating to the running of the Association • Canadian Amateur Netball Association and International Netball Federation fees The benefits of this approach is that our membership base will be clearly defined and separated from program registration, making it easier to communicate with all members of the Association, and report on our membership numbers for grant reporting purposes. Players will not be able to register for a sanctioned netball program unless they are a member of ANA. To become a member of ANA for the current financial year (up to August 31, 2021) please go to the Sports Sign Up Portal to complete the registration form and payment. Please note that the tentative date for the Annual General Meeting is November 22nd, 2020 at Southland Leisure Centre. More information will follow on the social distancing measures that will be in place. In order to be eligible to receive notice of the meeting and to vote at the meeting a person must be registered as a member 22 days prior to the meeting date. So please take 5 mins to register as a member now! The ANA Executive looks forward to seeing our netball friends and family at the AGM! https://netball.website.sportssignup.com/ Please be advised that due to the rapidly changing situation related to COVID-19, Netball Alberta and the Calgary League and Tournament Committee have confirmed the decision to cancel/postpone the Calgary End of Winter Season events scheduled to take place this weekend. Please be assured this decision has been made with an abundance of caution for the health and safety of everyone involved, and in line with current guidance from public health authorities released today.
The cancellation applies to the following events:
Refunds and ReschedulingTournaments are included in Member Registration Fees. Any Non-Members who have paid a Tournament Registration Fee will be refunded/credited. We are investigating options to reschedule the Prizegiving event... because it's important to recognize and celebrate our achievements and effort from throughout the season! It is too soon to determine if/when this will be possible, but we will monitor the evolving situation and work with our vendors to reschedule and host the Prizegiving event at a future date when it is safe to do so. We are hopeful this might be possible in conjunction with the upcoming Spring League or Summer Tournament activities. More information will follow in due course. In the meantime, arrangements will be made to issue refunds to anyone who has purchased a Prizegiving event ticket. Please bear with us as we work out the arrangements to issue the refunds. And we look forward to celebrating with you another time! Provincial ProgramsAt this point in time and until further notice, provincial training programs for Nationals are expected to continue as planned including this weekend, and into the future. The Coach will be in contact with provincial squads directly if there are any changes to the provincial training programs. Calgary Spring LeaguesAt this point in time and until further notice, Calgary Junior and Senior B Spring Leagues are expected to continue as planned. Spring League registration will remain open until further notice. We will continue to monitor the evolving situation and public health guidelines related to COVID-19, and will communicate any decisions related to Spring League programs in the future. Please note that the League/Program coordinators may also be in touch with you directly with further information related to your specific programs affected. Thank you for your understandingWhile we are all disappointed to cancel the Tournament and Prizegiving events this weekend, please be assured that this decision has been made with the health and safety of everyone involved as our top priority! We apologize for any inconvenience caused, but also trust you will understand. Please join me in thanking the Calgary League and Tournament Committee, and the Prizegiving event committee for all of their efforts that have gone into organizing these events! No one is more disappointed than them to cancel. Take the winter weather rolling in this weekend as an excuse to lay low and practice your 'social distancing.' Consider watching a game of netball from the comfort of your own home on YouTube (here is a recent game England v NZ in the Vitality Netball Nations Cup from January 2020). Please stay safe, and make sure you follow the guidelines from Alberta Health (www.alberta.ca/coronavirus), and Alberta Health Services (www.albertahealthservices.ca/covid), as well as follow the directives from your work, school, or other organizations where you might live, work or play to keep yourself and others around you healthy and well. Stay warm and well! Please note the 2020 Junior Spring League has been cancelled due to access restrictions in line with Covid-19 protocols.
